Can I get overdraft protection on my checking account?
You sure can! MCCU offers three types of overdraft protection (savings account, CheckGuard, and a line of credit option). One way to protect yourself from overdrawing your account is to set up your savings as a back-up. This enables you to use your own money to make sure your transactions are covered. This is a no-fee solution that we are glad to be able to offer! Another way to protect yourself is to enroll in our CheckGuard overdraft protection service. This service ensures that any transaction or payment you have scheduled will be honored (up to $500) even if you don’t have the funds available in your account. CheckGuard is a service we are glad to offer our members, but as there is $30 fee charged for each transaction that overdrafts the account, it isn’t the right fit for everyone. We also offer a Cash on Demand line of credit. If you do not elect to utilize either of these options, any transaction that hits your account will be rejected if you don’t have funds available in your checking account. If you’d like to speak with an MCCU representative to find the best fit for you, contact us!
What are the daily transaction limits for my MCCU ATM/debit card?
Daily card transaction limits are standard in the financial industry and are put in place to protect consumers from potential fraud. MCCU debit cards have two different daily limits: $1,000 for debit transactions and $3,000 for credit transactions. As ATM cards will only run as a debit, their daily limit is $1,000.
How do I request a temporary increase on my debit card transaction limits?
If you are looking to make a larger purchase with your debit card, give us a call and we will temporarily increase your daily limit.
Can I get a permanent increase on my debit card's daily transaction limits?
We do not offer permanent increases.
Can I use my cards on Apple Pay?
You sure can! Simply load your card information into the Wallet app on your iPhone.
Does the credit union put a hold on checks?
For security purposes, MCCU will sometimes put holds on checks when necessary. Any supporting documentation you can provide about a check can help to avoid or reduce a hold.
What should I do if my checks are lost or stolen?
If your checks are lost or you believe they have been stolen, make sure you contact us right away. We will place a block on any checks that have been compromised so they are unable to be cashed.
Why does the credit union block their debit cards from working in certain zip codes?
In the event we learn about a spike in fraudulent activity, we will take whatever actions we can to prevent MCCU members from being exposed. This sometimes results in us blocking specific zip codes so MCCU debit card numbers aren't exposed to a threat. While we never want to inconvenience our members, we will do everything we can to prevent our members from fraud.
Industry tip: Fraud spikes are often a result of gas station pump card skimmers so if you plan on using a card to pay for gas, we highly recommend going inside to pay whenever possible.
